I had a very disappointing experience with microneedling at Westlake Dermatology with Dr. Gordon. I originally scheduled an appointment hoping to see Dr. Sosa, whom I really like and have had great experiences with. However, I was told that Dr. Gordon was the only provider performing microneedling. During the procedure, the treatment was extremely painful. At one point I was actually crying because of how hard the device was being pressed into my skin. I remember her saying something along the lines of, “Go big or go home — if you’re going to do it, let’s really do it.” The pressure being applied, especially on my forehead, felt excessive. After the treatment and once my skin started healing, I noticed scratches across my forehead and other areas of my face. My understanding of microneedling is that it should create micro-channels in the skin, not scratches. In my case, it felt like the pressure was so heavy that the needles never had a chance to lift and create those channels. Instead, they appeared to be dragged across the surface of my skin, which resulted in visible scratches. Unfortunately, the healing process left me with melasma across my forehead in a grid-like pattern, which I did not have before the procedure. It has taken me a year to get some what back to normal. I contacted Westlake Dermatology to explain what happened. I was asked to come back in, but rather than offering any type of refund, I was given a prescription cream — which I had to pay for out of pocket. I’ve actually taken a long time to write this review because I continue to see Dr. Sosa for other procedures and didn’t want things to feel awkward. However, I believe it’s important to share my experience honestly so other patients are aware. I had high expectations for a well-known dermatology practice like Westlake, which is why this experience was so disappointing. I hope the clinic takes feedback like this seriously and reviews technique and patient comfort during cosmetic procedures.

Dr. Sousa and team provided services that exceeded my expectations. In addition to the warm and friendly welcome, the time spent with Dr Sousa was spent in meaningful and detailed conversation regarding my issues. I felt seen and heard. The solutions provided were specific to my particular needs. Dr Sousa leaves no stone unturned and digs deep to fully understand the need. I have already sent personal recommendations to a number of friends. Thank you for a great visit.

So pleased with Westlake Dermatology!! I’ve been seeing a few different dermatologists and finally got answers and results !!! Dr. Staples was amazing. If I could give more then 5 stars I would.

Wonderful experience! Easy to make an appointment online or by phone (i called). The staff was very kind and helpful, the doc was detailed and quick aka the best kind! I didn’t have to wait forever! Very approachable and a beautiful waiting room/office was the cherry on top!
